When you can’t wait any longer
But there’s no end in sight
It’s the faith that makes you stronger
The only way we get there
Is one step at a time

Are you waiting to hear “direction” from God? Do you feel like you keep asking and He keeps not letting you know? Do you just wish that you could know just a little bit of the plan? I know I have felt like this many times. This past weekend, Randy Bezet (Senior and founding pastor, Bayside Community Church) preached about this very thing. The topic, Living in God’s Will.
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9
Isn’t that always the way it is? We make plans, and then God tells us what we are really going to do! The bad thing for us, is that we always want to know what is next? We say, okay God, that next step is great, but what comes after that? He knows that we couldn’t handle the whole plan. So, he just gives us the next step. Pastor Randy had a great illustration of this. Have you ever gone on a road trip somewhere and don’t know where you are going? Your spouse sits in the passenger seat giving directions as you go. Or, maybe if you are hi-tech, you have a GPS doing it for you. Either way, you only get “the next step” one at a time. Imagine if that person (or GPS) gave all the directions at once. “You are going to go about seven miles and turn left at the Wal-mart, which reminds me, I need to pick up a few things there, I am out of shampoo, then go about 3.5 miles until you come to the house with the pretty white picket fence, isn’t that such a pretty house, we should have a picket fence, then you are going to see a park, go past that about 17 houses and the house you are looking for will be up on the right.” Yikes!! I don’t know about you, but I am still stuck back at Wal-mart!! You would be so lost.
You see, God knows we can’t handle all the steps all at once. We just need them one at a time. The problem comes when we have already received a word from God, but we didn’t do it. Whatever it was…We are asking for the next step, and God is still waiting for us to complete the last step. The challenging part for us is to figure out what God has asked you to do and do it. He doesn’t give you things to “consider”, but to only obey. You don’t need to talk it over with your friends, because they might just talk you out of it! And be warned, what He asks of you, will probably be hard. The things He will ask of you will “stretch” you. That is how we grow and learn.
So, here is my challenge for all who read this…What has God asked of you lately? Will you do it? If you learn to listen to the Word of God and follow His steps, you will find just how big He is and that nothing is impossible with God!
“I am the Lord , the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27
