What happened to my baby??

by Chel on August 20, 2009

We had already gone school clothes shopping for this year and I already know that my 5th grader has become much pickier about his clothes than he used to be. But, as we sorted out his closet in preparation for the first day of school, I learned just how picky he had become!

When he was little, I would buy and he would wear…very simple for me! Now, there are all kinds of “rules” for what he will and will not wear. Let me give you an example:

These are “too shiny and I would never wear them!” I guess he forgot that he actually picked these out himself and they were deemed “wearable” about six months ago!

Here is a shirt I bought for church…it was on sale and I thought he would look so good wearing with cool jeans. Well, this was bought maybe a year or two and stuffed in the back of his closet never to be seen again until we cleaned today. It is now on it’s way to Goodwill…(I showed this picture to my husband and he said he wouldn’t wear it either…is it really that bad??)

Moving on…

This outfit is “so faded I would be embarrassed to be seen in public wearing it!” Again, he picked it out and wore it until about a week or so ago.

Brand new shirt…never been worn and now doesn’t fit. Apparently he didn’t like the way the sleeves feel? I will save it for his little brother and hopefully he will deem it “wearable”!

I bought this shirt to go with these shorts:

But, picky 5th grader did not like them together. I am not sure why. So, he wanted to get rid of the brand new never been worn, but still fits shirt and the shorts. I convinced him to keep the shirt and wear it with jeans and he agreed that would be okay. Said shirt is currently in the dirty clothes hamper because now that he has decided to wear it, he wants it washed!

Back to the shorts…They still fit, but he won’t wear them with the black shirt. So…I actually discovered that we just bought two “approved for wearing” shirts that go with the shorts! Wow, how cool is that! The shorts can stay and he has two different looks!

We also had to get shoes…that wasn’t too bad for me. I sent him with his Dad!

So…I think we are all done and ready for school to start on Monday. Here are the clothes that “made the cut”:

And this is a sample of an outfit that has been deemed “wearable”:

And last, but not least, this is what is heading off to Goodwill…

You know, I am glad that he is becoming his own person with his own opinions, but they change so frequently, it is hard for me to keep up! I can’t believe that my baby is starting 5th grade on Monday! Where has all the time gone???

I'm glad it's you and not me...I know my time is coming. Oh, and the shirt, I would never have bought that either. Dan won't wear plaids.
