Day #6 – 30 Days of Thankfulness

Today I am thankful that I am an American.  I am thankful that I have the opportunity to vote, especially because I am a woman.  There are many countries today that unfortunately still view women as less than men and do not have the freedoms that are afforded to us here in America.  We are all fortunate here in this country because we do have a voice.  And, even though things may seem to be changing for the worse, we are still the land of the free and God is still in control.  The Bible says that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  (Hebrews 13:8)  This is good news!  We can always count on God and he will never leave us, nor forsake us.  He is not surprised by anything that happens.  We put our faith in Him and not in man; “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)  God never promised that we would not face trouble in this life.  In fact, he told us that we would face troubles and trials.  But, we can choose how we will respond.  Will we live as victims and blame others for our lot in life?  Or, will we choose to acknowledge that God is in control and that nothing can separate us from Him?  If we are ever to live with peace in this life, we must accept responsibility for our choices and our actions.  We live in a fallen world that is ruled by the devil.  The Bible says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  (John 10:10)  The devil will deceive you.  He will pit brother against brother.  He will try to convince you to blame others and not submit to those in authority.  But, while we are in this world, we are commanded to submit to the ones who have authority over us.  “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1)  We may not agree with everything that our elected officials do and say, but we must respect them and we must continue to vote!

Today I will choose to put my trust in God and not in man.  The Bible says, “… If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
